Here are 10 portrait photography techniques to remember when documenting your precious memories. First get down on their level (dogs & kids). Use a plain background so your subject shows up better. Remember to use a flash for outdoor photos. Move in close to your objects (flowers). For a change take some vertical pictures.  When taking pictures of moving things lock the focus so you don’t miss anything. Put some pictures with the object away from the middle of the shot.  Know your flash’s range so you won’t be disappointed. Watch the light around the object or subject.

Become a photo director and make your shots meaningful to the viewer. 

Portrait Photography Tips - The Composition is the arranging of the parts of a scene into a pleasing and balanced picture. It is also based on your personal taste. The way you composed a picture may not be seen the same as someone else. Ex: When taking a picture of nature say a waterfall. If there is trees near it put them in the shot so you can see the height of the falls. The composition that shows the photographers meaning is an effective one. If the viewers are confused it is not an effective picture.  

There is no type of photography that disappoints a beginner more than Flash Photography. The Flash is so brief that it is hard to say how it will turn out. We just hope for the best and are usually disappointed in the results and accept that it is unavoidable. 

Some of the problems are shadows, red eye; things in the front are overexposed and look bleached out where things in the back are darker than you thought. 

The real learning comes with time, comparing your pictures with older ones will help to learn where the problems are and the problems you have overcome. Flashes are useful outdoors to help brighten shadow areas on a sunny day.

Wildlife Photography Tips - When taking pictures of Animals it requires patience and some understanding of the animals. So you can try to predict how they will react so you can make a better picture. If you consider the animal’s character the same as you do when taking people pictures you will do all right.

Decide what you want your pictures to say about the animal before you click and use composition and angles to get the best picture.  When ever you take a picture of your pet they seem to become uncooperative. Keep picture taking short.  Try taking them during natural activities rather than trying to make your dogs do what you want.  Use a toy or snack to get your pets attention. 

Get close to your pet or use the zoom to make warm pictures at their level.  Show your pets in action they always want to run and play.  Take lots of pictures to increase your probability that you get the right shot. It is a good idea to practice beforehand. 

The Zoo is a good place where you can study behaviour and will have a better idea if you go out in nature to take animal pictures.  When taking pictures at the zoo, make a picture story of it. Leaving home, your arrival, other events during your visit and the tired kids on the ride home. Show pictures of your kids and their reactions to the animals.

If you are using a flash shoot at a 45-degree angle so the flash reflection bounces away from the lens and not back into it.  Always remember to have enough film or memory cards & batteries so you can capture all the memories you want.   If no Zoo is available go to a farm nearby.
